EASTMONT TECHNOLOGY CENTER

OCCUR founded the Eastmont Computing Center in 1997 in response to the ever-widening gap in technology access, usage and computer literacy in the East Bay region. For over a decade ETC has provided the following essential services to more than 400 users each week and is nationally recognized as a Community Technology Center best practice due to its work supporting users of all ages, interests and ranges of need including seniors and the disabled with a full range of services:

  • Free computer and Internet access
  • Free computer classes for adults and seniors in English and Spanish
  • Career building workshops
  • Youth and adult business technology training
  • Free technology-based after-school program for youth ages 10 –18 entitled the Eastmont Computer Clubhouse

LION CREEK CROSSINGS NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORKS CENTER

In 2007 OCCUR built on the success of the Eastmont Technology Center by establishing the Lion Creek Crossings Neighborhood Networks Center (LCC-NNC) at a newly developed Hope VI site in East Oakland. At this low-income housing facility, the LCC-NCC lab offers technology education and support services in partnership with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), Oakland Housing Authority, One Economy (The Beehive), and the Stride Center. The LCC-NNC lab specifically offers:
